A field study mission was undertaken by digital agriculture specialists Dr. Rassarin Chinnachodteeranun and Dr. Kiyoshi Honda to Bua Yai Subdistrict, Na Noi District, Nan Province from 27 to 28 July 2022.
The objectives of the trip were to confirm the agricultural landscape in highland communities (specifically the key supply chain stakeholders and processes), and engage in discussions about basic agricultural geospatial systems and digital farming technologies. TA experts have confirmed that an ecosystem approach can improve the capacities of all stakeholders in the supply chain, which can help solve the production quality and efficiency issues in highlands.
The active engagement of farmers and stakeholders during the workshop indicated the community’s positive outlook on digital technologies. There were fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas, which revolved around how access to information and choosing the right technologies can help improve agricultural production in Nan. Farmers and stakeholders showed willingness to adopt digital-based technologies, with reservations. Farmers pointed out that they still needed time to learn how to use digital technologies effectively. The TA should consider spending more time on stakeholder onboarding in order to achieve better outcomes.
